To tuck or not to tuck

Q: Why does my girlfriend insist on tucking my shirt collar in my suit jacket? Is there something wrong when it’s just hanging out?

A: By tucking your collar under your suit, we’re assuming you mean under your lapels. And the answer would be: because she knows what’s right. It’s just more elegant to have your collar neatly secured under your lapels instead of floating like a pair of rocket fins over your jacket. There was a time when it was fashionable to display the collar over lapels and leaving the top couple of buttons undone. This just happens not to be that time, and the collar over lapel look just looks vulgar and sloppy. Trust your girlfriend on this one guys. They may not tell you all the time, but they happen to be just as judgemental and critical when they check out other men.
